alia predominantly examines topics of mental health, the female gaze and her own personal experience in her paintings. She communicates her two cultures via her use of colour and pattern which are reminiscent of both places she calls home. Bringing to life scenes of melancholy surrounding the emotional turmoil we face as women as well as the highlighting fixation with the female form, alia presents her subjects with a vulnerability and softness as well as solitude.
